Will be staying at the Port Orleans - French Quarter. Was wondering if the free boat transportation from POR can be used to get to some place where fireworks can be seen. Interested in seeing the fireworks but would like to avoid huge crowds..Thanks!

You can see some of the Disney fireworks throughout the property but you really can't experience any of the great shows unless you are there in person.  Illuminations has a great amount of its show done at water level that you would miss unless you were in EPCOT.

If you want to view these shows and avoid crowds you can reserve a fireworks pontoon boat to watch them from the water. This can be done both for the Magic Kingdom and the EPCOT shows.  You also might try to get an advanced dining reservation at the California Grill where you can watch and listen to the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the top of the Contemporary resort.  My last suggestion would be to travel to the Polynesian resort or Fort Wilderness to view the show on their beaches. The music is piped in so you don't miss too much.

The boats from Port Orleans would simply help you to get to Downtown Disney where you could transfer to a bus to another resort or park.
