We will be staying at POR and have meal reservations at Fort Wilderness. Will we be able to walk from POR to Ft Wilderness? If so, how long should we allow for this? If not, what transportation is available between the two and how long will they take?

    Pamela:

You definitely can't walk between the resorts, but don't let that stop you from heading over to Trail's End at Fort Wilderness.

The quickest way to get from Port Orleans to the fort is a 5-minute cab ride that will drop you off at the Outpost of Fort Wilderness from which you can take one of the fort's internal buses (I prefer the Orange Line, but hop on the first one that says Settlement and you'll be good to go).  It will take you to the Settlement area where you'll find Pioneer Hall and Trail's End.

If you don't want to pay for a taxi, you'll need to take the bus from Port Orleans to the Magic Kingdom. It will drop you off near the front gate. Walk toward the gate and you'll see the ferry boats to your left. Board the one headed to Fort Wilderness. The boat will take you to the Settlement of Fort Wilderness, as the pier is only about 50 yards from Trail's End. The total time for this transfer, though, can be as much as 45 minutes, so in my opinion, I'd just catch the cab.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
