We will be staying at POR Feb 7-14. We have been to Disney each of the last 3 years, however this will be our first time at this resort and was wondering if you had any advice on which area/building to request? Thank you! PS - I LOVE this board!

    Beth:

I think Port Orleans is a good value for the price; the grounds along with the pool and boat to Downtown Disney gives it a leg up in my opinion over other moderates...With that said, though, the downside to the resort is that it has a large campus, like the other moderates.

The resort itself is divided into two parts: Magnolia Bend with a "Southern Mansions" theme and Alligator Bayou, with a more rustic, spanish moss low-country/coastal theme. I would have preferred to stay in Magnolia Bend, however, you can only get trundle-bed rooms at Alligator Bayou. Because I'm from South Mississippi, the theme-ing isn't as unusual to me as some of the others like Caribbean Beach but the familiarity made me feel I was staying closer to home!

When we were there, there wasn't much water in the gullies between buildings, so unless you pay for a water view of the pool or Sassagoula River, you probably won't get a "water view"....but honestly, I don't know if I'd pay for one since there are walkways outside of your window between you and your water view. However, if you like a "water" view ask for a third floor room in Acadian House (building 80) on the Magnolia Ben side. For a water view in Alligator Bayou, ask for a second-story room in building 27 or 38.

If your idea of a good room is one that's close to the restaurant, marina, or shopping areas, request Magnolia Terrace or Oak Manor. If my memory serves me correctly, we were in building 18 on the Alligator Bayou side and were not far from the bus stop or the main building and marina. The buildings right beside us, 27 and 14, were also convenient to the restaurant and shopping areas. The backside of buildings 15, 16, and 17 along with 24 face Bonnet Creek Pkwy. so I they wouldn't be tops on my list.

Hope this gives you a little insight!
    Wishing you a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
