We are staying in POR in a couple of weeks. I would like to request to be near the action..restaurant, main pool, arcade, laundry etc. If I have reserved a regular room and request one of the Preferred rooms when we check in, will I get charged extra?

    Hi Heidi,

You are welcome to ask for a preferred room upon check-in.  However, if you make the request to upgrade, you will likely be charged the difference between a standard and a preferred room. Sometimes, through the forces of pixie dust and good luck, guests who booked standard rooms are upgraded to preferred rooms.  It's not always clearly why this happens but I have heard that it may be due to a shortage of unoccupied standard rooms.  If that happens, you get the preferred room without having to pay the up-charge.  It's a long-shot, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that this happens to you.

If you don't want to book a preferred room in advance, my best advice to you would be to ask politely at the front desk if there are any complimentary room upgrades available.  While it is unlikely that this will be the case, it never hurts to ask.

Meanwhile, add a request to your hotel reservation stating that you wish to be placed as close as possible to Sassagoula Steamboat Company and the River Mill food court.  That's where you'll find most of the resort's amenities.

Wishing you many magical memories during your upcoming trip!
