We will be staying at POR in Alligator Bayou (5 people). We reserved a standard view room. Should we have reserved a preferred room to get closer to the pool area? Not sure how long of a walk we could be in for depending on what building we are assigned

    Hi Jeffrey!

Port Orleans is my FAVORITE moderate resort!  It has one of the best food courts in all of Walt Disney World and an awesome pool as well.  The Alligator Bayou area is honestly one resort where I would absolutely recommend spending a little extra for a Preferred room.  If you are assigned a room in one of the most remote buildings, you could be looking at a good 10, even 15 minute walk to the lobby and food court!!!

Of course, you will have a pool and bus stop nearby, but it is a looong way to all of the real action.  If you need to stick to your budget, I would advise asking for Building 16.  It is the closest Standard Building to the lobby, main pool, etc.  Disney cannot guarantee your Building request, but they will sure do their best to honor it!

If you do decide to spring for a Preferred room, I would ask for Building 14 - it just doesn't get any better!  I hope that you have a fantastic vacation and keep those questions coming!
