We're staying at Pop Century and visiting Disney's four theme parks. We're also going to Downtown Disney and to see Cirque de Soleil. Frommer's suggests renting a car because they say it's a long ride from where the budget hotels are to the parks. True?

    Hi Jacqueline!

Buses run about every 20 minutes from the various locations at Walt Disney World.  Sure the Value Resorts are not close to any particular theme park, but they are not that much farther either.  The only exception, of course, is the Magic Kingdom Resorts are close to the Magic Kingdom and the Epcot Resorts are close to Epcot.  A Magic Kingdom Resort isn't closer to Disney's Animal Kingdom however; in fact, Pop Century is much closer to it!

The bottom line is you should rent a car if you like to be in control of your schedule and the idea of waiting 20 minutes to ride what could be a crowded bus doesn't appeal to you.  Also, if you are trying to go somewhere besides a theme park or Downtown Disney then you might have to switch buses adding more commute time.  For example, if you are staying at Pop Century but want to go to the Yacht Club, you would first have to go Downtown Disney or a theme park and then transfer to a bus going to the Yacht Club.

Driving yourself is the fastest way to get around Walt Disney World with the exception of the Magic Kingdom.  The Magic Kingdom is an exception because guests park in the parking lot and then have to take a monorail or a ferry boat across Seven Seas Lagoon before reaching the entrance to the theme park.  Disney transportation, on the other hand, drop you off right in front of the Magic Kingdom.

I hope this helps!  Write back if you have any more questions!
