I think you will find that there are many answers to this question, but I have to share our absolute favorite restaurant: BOMAS at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. First, visiting the unique experience of this resort is truly one of a kind with its rich African theming and beauty, not to mention the animals that roam the savannahs nearly right outside some of the guest rooms.
Bomas is a restaurant that blends the tastes of Africa while keeping standard American dishes at hand. While I can have quinoa, lentils, and hummus till I burst (I'm a vegetarian, and it has many, many veg-friendly choices), my carnivorous husband can have endless plates of wonderfully seasoned prime rib. In addition, my traditional middle son is delighted by the offering of spaghetti and french fries. It has provides such a wonderful balance to try a new cuisine balanced well with traditional offerings.
So for us the combination of a visit to the resort along with the delicious offerings of Bomas, we always make this a priority when we visit. I usually make the advanced dining reservations on days where we will have spent the afternoon at the Animal Kingdom and will return back to the park for Extra Magic Hours to keep the transportation plan simple.
By the way, it isn't a problem to ask for some other opinions from the other Disney Moms. You can ask them directly by visiting their profile or just ask the question again (maybe saying something like "While Kara loves Bomas for non-character meals resort dining, do you have any other suggestions...."
