Jambo (hello) Tammy,
Welcome back to planDisney; I’m happy to see you find our advice helpful and have returned for more ideas on your next Walt Disney World Resort vacation! Boma – Flavors of Africa is one of my favorite places for breakfast on property so I’m happy to share all the details of how to make that happen for your upcoming visit this holiday season.
Yes, you may absolutely visit Boma at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge regardless of whether you’re staying there. I’ve also done this meal on my departure day; it’s an amazing, filling breakfast before you have a travel day ahead of you. Please try to make a dining reservation online for Boma the morning of your departure day – I currently see plenty of availability for December 20, 2023 so you should be in luck. If nothing is available, please keep trying and then be sure to check again on your vacation days leading up to your desired date. Guests’ plans change often, and I usually find some pixie dust in the My Disney Experience App for an available table the day prior or even the day of my desired meal with some diligence in checking.
Did you know that a “Boma” is an enclosure to protect animals in Africa? You’ll see that design of a fence-like structure made from vertical reeds outline the sprawling buffet under a large, thatched roof to set the scene for your meal. I love the variety of hearty dishes here; my family isn't too adventurous when it comes to food, but we love to sample some authentic African flavors among familiar American breakfast favorites. My must-try dishes are the coconut oats (resembling warm oatmeal in a large pot with a variety of toppings), creamy scrambled eggs with goat cheese and chives, and the incredibly indulgent bread pudding with vanilla sauce. They also serve the famous pineapple-orange-guava juice (“POG juice”) here, and delicious coffee drinks. The global menu, stunning setting off the cavernous lobby of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House, and warm hospitality make this a top breakfast spot in my book.
From Disney’s Pop Century Resort, you have a few options to navigate your way to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort that morning:
- If you have your own vehicle, you may park at Jambo House for the duration of your meal and to explore the resort before departing.
- You can take a rideshare service for a fee, such as Lyft or Uber, round-trip for your meal.
- You can take a complimentary bus from Disney’s Pop Century Resort to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park and another bus to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (and back).
If you don’t have your own vehicle, I suggest leaving your luggage with Bell Services at Disney’s Pop Century Resort until you’re ready to depart. Be sure and explore the views and animals of the savannah from Jambo House for an unforgettable last morning of vacation.
Please let us know how else we can help you make the most of this, or any future, Disney vacation. Wishing you the most visit during the most magical time of the year!
Kwaherini (go well),
Amy
