Aloha Suhanya and welcome to planDisney from one Canadian to another!
I can only imagine how amazing it'll feel to finally head down to Florida for your stay at
Disney's Polynesian Village Resort this summer; it's definitely one of those Disney Destinations known for its gorgeous theming and
incredible dining options. There's nothing like being able to walk from your room to grab a refreshing
Dole Whip from Pineapple Lanai and strolling the beach barefoot. I can almost hear the sizzle and smell the grilled meats from
'Ohana right now!
As you might know, one of the most popular places for folks to sip and snack is
Trader Sam's Grog Grotto, which is in my opinion the most immersive, unique dining location at Walt Disney World Resort. As a member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, I love the little storytelling details sprinkled on walls and shelves; spending even a little bit of time in there will surprise and delight everyone with its whimsical atmosphere full of fun effects and themed happenings that occur as your fellow guests order
certain items off the menu.
Because of this, it does have a very huge draw of guests wishing to enjoy this highly-themed space and unfortunately the Front Desk at the resort confirmed for me that guests staying at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort do not currently have the ability to join the virtual queue earlier, nor is it any easier to secure a spot if you're visiting with children. After you provide your name and contact number to the Cast Member outside the door, you do have the advantage of being able to return to your room to relax and await to be notified!
One of the key things to be aware of is that any guests under the age of 21 are only allowed to visit before 8:00 PM; therefore, I recommend joining the wait list as early as possible. Based on our last experience at Trader Sam's Grog Grotto, I can offer you some of my handy Picks, Tips & Tricks:
- While the official posted opening time is 3:00 PM (subject to change), we observed folks already waiting in line as early as two hours ahead of time. As a Disney's Polynesian Village Resort guest, you may be able to take advantage of splitting up by having one member of your party wait while the others enjoy the nearby Lava Pool area, and switching out at intervals until the Cast Members begin taking information for the virtual queue.
- Request a lower table close to the exit door in order to have the best view of any special atmospheric effects as they happen, especially when ordering the mysterious Uh-Oa.
- Be aware that some seating arrangements may have you sharing tables with other guests who may be a bit boisterous after a beverage or two - so keep that in mind when taking the kids along!
I really hope you get a chance to experience one of my absolute favourite places at Walt Disney World Resort during your stay, and please come back to planDisney if you'd like to
ask me anything else before your visit!
And as I always say on any expedition: If in Trader Sam's you dare to tread, do take care not to lose your head!
