We are staying at The Poly in 8/2013. Which longhouses have been renovated this year? We have 3 kids under 10& would like to be close to the pool, GCH for ADRS at Kona & Ohana. We have a special needs child and one with asthma so limited walking

Aloha, John!  I will be heading back to the Polynesian in September and I can't wait to check out the renovated rooms.  According to what I've read online, most of the buildings will be complete by August.  What's nice about the Polynesian is it's a relatively small resort so there isn't much walking from one building to the next.  You might want to visit a site such as allears.net and view a resort map.  This will give you a visual of what I'm about to suggest.

If the refurbishment is on schedule from what I've read online, the two buildings that will not be available to you are Rapa Nui and Tahiti.  However, those two buildings are probably too far for the location you are seeking.  If being located as close as possible to the Great Ceremonial House (GCH) is most important to you, I would recommend the Rarotonga longhouse.  We have stayed here in the past on the 3rd floor facing the monorail as my children used to love to watch the monorail go by when they were in their room.  It is a short walk to the pool, under two minutes once you are outside the building.

If being close to the pools are most important to you, then Samoa would be perfect for you.  It is located in between the volcano and quiet pools.  The walk to the GCH isn't too bad - again, just a minute or two once you are outside your building.

If you want something in between, Niue would be a great choice.

Enjoy your vacation at the Polynesian!  Be sure to make reservations at 'Ohana for breakfast and dinner during your stay - so much fun!  Also, you'll want to head down to the beach at 9:00 to watch the Electric Water Pageant and Wishes at least one night during your vacation.
