I am staying at one of the Value Disney Resort Dec 18-22nd, my son wants to go to the beach. Any suggestion? Also will I need to rent a car to get us there or does the shuttle service provide that service too.

Hi Tracy, I was actually just planning this on my upcoming trip as well so I can tell you what my research came up with. The closest beach to WDW is Cocoa Beach and it is about a 45 minute drive. Cocoa beach is on the East coast of Florida and the sand is more like a packed greyish sand, if you want the white sand beaches and more chance of finding cool shells and have warmer water temperatures, then you will have to head towards the West coast. If you want the West coast beaches, you are looking at a longer drive (approximately 1 1/2 hrs to 2 hr drive). I am not sure if there is a shuttle service company that makes these trips or not as I always rent a car (but Disney does not offer their own shuttle bus, so you would have to find an outside company). I think a rental car would be your best bet anyways, not only for best price value but it's also more convenient to be able to explore the different areas as you're driving and make the stops you need along the way as well as ease in bringing your beach gear along. Cocoa beach is my choice on my upcoming trip, but next time I may have to try the West coast. I hope this helps! Best wishes, Brigitta
