I will be staying at the OKWR in August and want to take my son fishing I will be bringing my own gear, is there a map of the places you can fish by your self without guides and are these limited to times of the day.

Hi David!  I am an avid fisherman as well and have reserved the guided fishing excursions many times.  We have caught some mighty fine bass from time to time and it was just fun to get away from the park crowds for a few hours.

There are two places that I know of that you can fish on your own right now. One is Port Orleans and the other is Fort Wilderness. You can rent bamboo poles and bait at either location and it is a strict catch and release program wherever you fish on property.  There are designated locations and you can get those when you arrive at either resort. For Fort Wilderness instructions you would go to the bike barn located in the center of the resort near the large pool complex. From early morning to late in the evening you will see families trying their luck around the large pond right at the Bike Barn. You can also try your luck off some of the Fort Wilderness canals but you cannot fish on your own in Bay Lake. There is a "fishing hole" at Port Orleans but from what I understand if you aren't there early the fish will be hiding from the sun and you!

There will be specific times of day you can rent equipment and purchase bait but I have seen many fishing early and late when they have their own equipment. Check with your resort concierge for up to date information about this recreation activity when you check-in.
