Staying offsite. Rent ECV from Disney or outside company? Are there any issues with getting into parks with ECV? Also, if you have an ECV do you need the DAS card as well? Worried about my dad in long lines. Thanks so much for your advice!

Hello, Christine! My mother travels with me sometimes and when she does she rents an Electric Conveyance Vehicle (EVC) to help her navigate the parks. Where you should rent from really just depends on your needs. If you are planning to visit longer than 3 days I highly recommend renting from an outside company. I called Buena Vista Scooter Rentals to get a price quote for a 5-night stay this December and they gave me a shockingly great offer. I was expecting a steep price, but the price quote they gave me would end up saving us quite a bit of money in the end. If we had stuck with our original plan of renting an EVC at Walt Disney World every day it would have cost us more, and at the end of the day, you have to leave the EVC at the theme park. If you rent from an outside company, you take the EVC back to your hotel, charge it, and can use it again at your leisure. Now since you are staying offsite, you might prefer renting from Walt Disney World and leaving the EVC at the parks instead of having to deal with transporting it back and forth from wherever you are staying. You do not need a Disability Access Service card (DAS) to rent an EVC and there should be no issues getting into the parks with an EVC. There are ramps and areas that specifically accommodate EVCs and guests with mobility disabilities.

I suggest sitting down and going through each scenario to figure out which option would be best for you. Call around and get price quotes and talk about your specific needs and the pros and cons of each situation. If you need anything else, we'd be happy to help! Happy planning, and have a magical day!
