we are staying off property and want to be sure we see walt disney world magic kingdoms opening ceremony.. i heard it changed since we were there 3 years ago. what do we do to get there now? thank you

Hey there, Sarah! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! And speaking of welcome...let's get you ready for a great big welcome from your Disney pals at Magic Kingdom Park!

You're right, Sarah, in 2017 the Walt Disney World Resort started a brand new way to kick off each day at the Magic Kingdom with Let the Magic Begin, a special morning greeting that helps get everyone excited to experience a magical Disney day!

The show starts five minutes before official Park opening time. So, for example, when the Magic Kingdom is scheduled to open at 9 a.m., Let the Magic Begin starts at 8:55. Plus, Guests will be allowed to enter the Park and access parts of Main Street, U.S.A and the area just in front of the Castle starting about an hour in advance. In our example, that means you'd be able to tap your MagicBand at the entrance and head inside as early as 8 a.m.

After parking your car, you'll take a tram to the Transportation & Ticket Center, where you'll go through security and bag check before boarding the ferry or monorail to the Magic Kingdom entrance. I usually allow about an extra 30 minutes for this process, so just keep that in mind when deciding what time you want to be at the Magic Kingdom.

While you're waiting for the show to start, stop by Plaza Ice Cream Parlor for a sweet morning treat, or get your daily Starbucks at Main Street Bakery. Both open when Main Street, U.S.A. welcomes Guests, along with other select locations.

I'm so excited for you to start your Disney day with the magical new welcome, Sarah! Please come see us again if you have any more questions!

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
