We are staying off property, but would like to spend a day exploring and eating at different Disney Resorts! Are we able to do so even though we aren't resort guests? Will we be able to use the monorail? Thanks!

Hi there, Annie! Thanks for stopping by planDisney with your question today!

I'm so glad to hear that you will be visiting the Walt Disney World Resort this coming January, as you will be arriving just in time to enjoy all that The Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration has to offer! One of the most spectacular highlights of the celebration is the new nighttime fireworks spectacular, Disney Enchantment. You'll watch in awe as both Cinderella Castle and Main Street, U.S.A., come alive with color, light and music. I can say from experience the show will absolutely blow you away!

One of my favorite things to do on every Walt Disney World Resort vacation is to hop around and check out all of the incredible Disney Resort Collection hotels. Each resort has its own immersive and unique theming, so you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to different destinations across the globe as you jump from resort to resort. So, I am happy to share that you can absolutely visit the resorts during your stay. I highly recommend hopping around the resort monorail crawl to check out Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. These resorts are absolutely stunning and have some fabulous restaurants and bars to enjoy while you’re there. My favorite is definitely Enchanted Rose Lounge at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, which is themed for the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast. If you’re looking for a cocktail, check out the Lavender Fog. It’s one of the best drinks I have ever had, so you won’t be disappointed.

Now, do keep in mind that you need an Advanced Dining Reservation at the resort to be able to park a vehicle in the lot as you explore. So, if you are driving, you’ll want to park at one of the theme parks and then take the complimentary Walt Disney World Bus Service to the resort you plan to check out. Alternatively, you can use a ride-share service to get there and be dropped off right at the main lobby entrance of each resort. Either option works well!

I hope you found this answer helpful! As you continue to prep for your upcoming visit, know that we are here to help you make the most of your Walt Disney World Resort vacation. So, please visit us again with any questions you may have.

    Bye for now,
