Welcome to planDisney, David!
I'm so glad you stopped by to discuss one of my favorite topics:
runDisney!
I first discovered
runDisney when a January visit to Walt Disney World Resort happened to fall during the Walt Disney World Resort Marathon Weekend. Fast forward to one year later, and I was running through EPCOT on the way to cross the finish line of my very first marathon. In the decade that has followed those magical 26.2 miles, I have become a
runDisney regular and my husband a seasoned spectator, so I'm happy to share a bit of the insight we have gained over the years so that you can support your favorite runner!
While you won't find designated 'spectator' buses, spectators are welcome to board the race day buses bound for the start line. While this would mean an early morning, you'd be able to stay with your marathoner until they pass through security at the starting area. From there, you should be able to take the EPCOT
Monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center before connecting to Magic Kingdom Park. Of course, transportation operating hours change from year to year, so I would wait to see what
race-specific spectator information is released closer to the race. Another option would be to drive or to utilize a ride-share service to reach the Transportation and Ticket Center.
It's important to keep in mind that the start time and pace of your runner will also impact the transportation options available to you. As theme park operating hours draw nearer, you'll find more buses available that connect the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks runners traverse toward the end of the race. Because I'm a slower runner, my husband has actually been able to cheer me on (and provide snacks) in all four of the theme parks during the marathon. Of course, those early morning hugs on Main Street, U.S.A. are my favorite!
As the race date approaches more information will be shared for both runners and spectators that will help you make more definitive plans, but I hope this information I provided is a helpful
starting line (no proof of time required!).
Don't hesitate to
reach back out with any additional questions that arise. I'm always happy to help!
Thinking Happy Thoughts,
Lizzie
