Hiya Wendy! Welcome to planDisney!
Oh boy! A week-long stay at the Most Magical Place on Earth is bound to be a fantastic time. While the theme parks are entertaining on their own, there is nothing quite like staying at a Disney Resorts Hotel during your stay! In fact, my family has visited multiple times over the years for a resort-only stay where we enjoyed the recreation and amenities offered at each of the resorts along with the various other activities that can be found at Walt Disney World.
Disney's All-Star Movies Resort offers a ton to keep you busy when not visiting the parks. There are multiple pools around the resort, including the main pool area that will have activities in the afternoon for your little ones to enjoy. They'll also be happy to know that there is an arcade in the main lobby and a playground onsite. Each night, there will be a campfire setup where you can roast marshmallows followed by Movie Under the Stars, which shows a classic Disney movie for the family to enjoy.
Outside of your resort, you can head over to one of the two miniature golf courses on Walt Disney World property. The
Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course and
Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf Course are both incredibly themed and a ton of fun. You can't go wrong with either one and you'll be able to navigate your way to each using complimentary Disney Transportation. Disney also has traditional golf courses, if you and your traveling party are interested in hitting the links on a non-park day.
On rest days from the parks, my family loves to explore some of the other resorts on property. I suggest taking a bus from All-Star Movies over to Disney's Hollywood Studios, then hopping on the
Disney Skyliner to explore the resorts along this line. You can even take it over to the back entrance of EPCOT and walk around
Disney's Boardwalk. Here you'll find games and entertainment while strolling around Crescent Lake. You can turn this into a great resort hopping day!
No trip is complete without a visit to
Disney Springs. Unlike the theme parks, there is no admission cost for entry. There is a host of dining and shopping options, along with a variety of entertainment offerings at select times. There are some delicious dining locations, including
Chef Art Smith's Homecomin', which my family has visited countless times over the last few years. Make sure to get an order of the deviled eggs if you dine here. Before heading out, make a stop at Gideon's Bakehouse for their selection of cookies and cakes! Believe me, you will not find any cookie like it around!
Wendy, I hope this helps you plan for the days you are not visiting the parks! You are going to have a magical time during your visit! Stop back and see us again at planDisney!
Happy planning!
Greg
