Hi! We are staying about an hour away with family and plan to visit MK on Christmas Eve Day. I am afraid of the park closing so plan to get there early. Once we get to the access roads for Disney how long should we plan to sit in traffic? Thank you!

Hi Jenny! This Christmas Eve will be one you long remember. The festive atmosphere, the special Christmas parade, and the spectacular decorations will help create a holiday that will stand out in your memory for many years.

Arriving early is the right plan. The sooner you reach Walt Disney World, the less traffic you will have to deal with. The heaviest traffic you will encounter will be at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom parking lot. Early morning traffic on the WDW roads typically is not an issue. The park opens to guests staying at nonDisney resorts at 8:00 am so plan to be in line for parking no later than 7:00 am. Even showing up an hour later will greatly increase the minutes you spend twiddling your thumbs in traffic rather than experiencing the magic of this classic theme park. Allow an hour to get through the parking booth line and park and one more hour to ride the tram to the Transportation and Ticket Center, transverse the TTC, and ride the monorail or ferry to the Magic Kingdom. If you arrive early enough you could reach the park in less time, but this is one of the most popular days of the year so be prepared for possibly longer waits.

Expect some crowds, but experiencing Christmas Eve with so many happy, holiday-spirited, Mouse loving people is part of the fun. Enjoy!
