Hi Jim,
Thanks so much for reaching out to us here at planDisney! I can see that you are arriving tomorrow and hoping to get your plans in place for your magical visit. It sounds like it will be a fantastic family reunion filled with lots of unforgettable memories, so let's dive into your question so you can put the finishing touches on your planning.
You are going to love staying in the magic at the
Grand Californian. I just returned from a stay there myself and was completely swept up in the beautiful architecture, delicious dining options, and proximity to the parks. Of course, a big perk of staying there is access to the
Fountain, Mariposa, and Redwood pools, which are reserved for hotel Guests. I'm sorry, I know that was not the news you were hoping to hear! Only Guests included on the reservation and with an active keycard will be able to access the pool areas.
There are plenty of spaces where visitors are welcome to spend time with Guests, including any of the dining locations and the expansive lobby with lots of comfortable places to gather. I'd recommend making a
dining reservation at the
GCH Craftsman Bar, which is situated just next to the pool and is one of my favorite places in the whole resort to gather with friends. I love it as a midday break from the park hustle and bustle, or even for an early dinner to recharge before heading back into the park for nighttime thrills and entertainment. If you're looking for something more low-key, you can grab a coffee at the
GCH Craftsman Grill and sit in one of the lobby rocking chairs in front of the fireplace. There is often a live pianist filling the lobby with some of your favorite Disney tunes. For something a tad more upscale, make a reservation for
Hearthstone Lounge for a craft cocktail, cozy glass of wine, and some delicious food.
Jim, I know this was not the answer you were hoping for, but I do hope it's been helpful in your planning. If you have any specific questions, I recommend asking a Cast Member when you arrive. Another helpful tip may be that you can add Guests to your reservation even once you've arrived. I was able to do this for just one night of my stay for a friend who was joining me for a short stay by visiting the front desk. I'd also recommend asking for a list of resort activities upon check-in, there's always something fun happening in and around the hotels.

Magic awaits!
