We will be staying at the Grand Californian on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but it says that Mickey’s Christmas Carol Feast at Storyteller’s Cafe is blacked out for those two days. Is the restaurant really closed during our visit?

    Hi Tom,

Welcome back to planDisney! Thank you for continuing to trust us with your planning questions. I was so excited to hear about Mickey’s Christmas Carol feast at Storytellers Cafe. I’m planning on making some reservations myself! The outfits Mickey and the gang wear for the Christmas Carol theme look amazing, and I can’t wait to snap some photos!

We panelists were buzzing in our chat about when the reservation times would open! We sounded the alarm when they finally became available. Currently, dining reservations can be made 60 days in advance. You're just a tad early for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day reservations. As I write this, the reservation calendar goes up to December 3rd, and I don’t see anything open available. Be sure to come back and check on October 24 for availability on your desired date. Reservations can open as early as 6:00 AM, so set an alarm, these spots go fast!

If, for whatever reason, you're unable to secure a reservation, I recommend stopping by the restaurant when it opens on December 24th. Sometimes, there are slots available for same-day reservations. Additionally, Storytellers offers a virtual Walk-Up List that you can join through the Disneyland app (subject to availability). These are great strategies to try and snag a same-day reservation.

While you're at the Grand Californian, be sure to visit the main lobby. There’s typically a seasonal display, and at select times, a live pianist playing holiday tunes. Grab a sweet treat from the snack cart in the lobby, find a cozy spot by the fireplace, and soak in the holiday vibes!

I hope this information is helpful, Tom! If you have any other questions or need more planning tips, feel free to write back to me or one of my fellow planDisney panelists. We’d be happy to sprinkle a little pixie dust onto your planning.

    Good luck!
