We are staying at the FW campground in July. As guests at the campground, do we get to take advantage of the extra magic hours? Also, we are not purchasing the dining plan, can we still make advanced dining reservations? Any tips for camping at DW?

    Jennifer:

Fort Wilderness provides a relaxing break from the parks. I find it at least 10 degrees cooler because of the breeze off Bay Lake and its dense tree canopy, and in July you'll need it!

Fort Wilderness guests are treated like any other resort guest with the same privileges like Extra Magic Hours, package delivery and free Disney transportation. You can also make advanced dining reservations both online or by calling 407-939-3463 starting at 180 days out from your arrival date.

I could fill your inbox full of tips, but here are some of my top ones:

    • Request a quiet woods or water view. I find these spots to be larger and a greater chance to see the deer and wild turkeys that roam the resort.
    • Read the Fort Wilderness Gazette you'll receive upon check-in. In it, you'll find all of the rules and regulations of the campground, but most importantly a calendar of events, including pool parties, bingo, and the occasional dodgeball game.
    • Make time in your schedule to attend Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Sing-a-Long. Check the Gazette for the nightly time and arrive about 20 minutes early to get a good seat on a middle row for easy access to Chip and Dale and roast some marshmallows in the fire pots while you wait.
    • Rent a golf cart, even if it's for one day. We always allow time to "loop" the campground to see campsite decorations, admire the big RVs, and discuss our next visit's loop location.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
