Staying at FW cabins end of Sept with 4 kids (3,5,7,9). Heard that bus service to AK, HS, Epcot can be laborious and LONG. We are trying to decide if it is worth the time and money to rent a car? If we have to choose one, do we rent a car or a golf cart?

    Hi Charles!

My family and I are planning on staying in a cabin at Fort Wilderness on our next family trip; my boys, ages 12 and 7, are really looking forward to it.  I'm renting a car for that trip and I think it is a big plus.  I'm also renting a golf cart to be able to get around the resort easier, but if I could only have one, I would go with the rental car!

You can park a car at your cabin.  That really makes getting to and from the theme parks very easy.  In fact, driving a car is the easiest and quickest way to get around Walt Disney World.  The only exception with regards to staying in the cabin is the Magic Kingdom, I think.  When we go, we're planning on taking the boat from Fort Wilderness to the Magic Kingdom.

If you are going to visit other resorts, such as for dinner, then a car is definitely a must.  The only exception would be the Wilderness Lodge and the Contemporary because those resorts are easy to get to via a boat from Fort Wilderness.  Likewise, the other monorail resorts are only a little harder to get to because you can take a monorail from the Contemporary.  However, the other resorts are hard to get to without a car in my opinion.  If you do decide to rent a car, then I would definitely make some dining reservations at some other resorts.  There are some great places to dine, especially the Animal Kingdom Lodge!

    Good luck with your decision!
