We are staying at Disney Fort Wilderness Cabins on our first trip with the kiddies. We've never stayed at a Disney Resort before and my question is, is there enough to do at the campgrounds to hang out there for a day and forgo a park?

Hi Jessica!  There is quite a bit to do at Fort Wilderness.  There is a nice pool with slide where during nice days you can easily spend a half a day.  In the same area you can find the Bike Barn where you can rent bikes, canoes, and Kayaks.  There is also archery offered now and in the evening campfires and outdoor movies.  You can rent fishing poles and try your luck in the canals that meander throughout the area.

A second "normal" type pool is located within the cabin loops as well.  Near Pioneer Hall you will find the Disney stables where the horses are located that you often see on Main Street of the Magic Kingdom.  Sometimes they will be grooming them outside or the farrier will be working on their shoes in the Blacksmith shop.  You can enjoy a pony ride here or if old enough take a trail ride with those stables located near the main bus area at the front of the resort.

Of course there is the marina where you can rent the water sprites or the pontoon boats.  If you have finished with the activities here you can hop on the boat launches and head to the Contemporary or Wilderness Lodge resorts or even the Magic Kingdom area.
