We are staying at the DBCR 5-15 thru5-22, driving from IN, 2 adults and 4yo. Do you rec. parking the car and using the disney system, or are we better off to drive between the sites? We were told to allow 1hr for travel is this true for all destinations?

This is always a tough decision and hard to answer what is best or right to do!  We usually do both when we come for a visit and have a car at our disposal.

The Disney bus transportation is honestly very good but it is hard to get from resort to resort.  I suggest you always use the busses for getting to the Magic Kingdom as they will take you directly to the entrance versus driving as you will then have to get on a monorail or a ferry to get over to the park. For the Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and EPCOT it is a toss up.  I hate having to park far away but others don't mind doing that versus waiting on busses at their resorts.  During busy times your travel can take up to an hour especially if you "just miss" the bus but to reach a park that would be absolutely the longest and it usually would take much less time then that.  It is nice to have the busses drop you off near the entrances!

If you have to go to another resort for any reason such as a dining reservation then definitely use your car.  Busses do not go directly from resort to resort and you have to transfer at a theme park or Downtown Disney.  This will indeed take a lot of extra time that could be up to an hour before you reach the destination.  You are allowed to park at another resort if you have a reservation for dining or an activity and will be given a parking pass for that allotted time.  You are not allowed to park at another resort to reach a them park.

Have a great time....my family is also planning a great trip to Disney in May!
