we are staying at the contemporary from 12/16/11 to 12/22/11. will my grandchildren be able to go swimming? shall i pack swim suits. they are 3 and 8 years old. what about the water parks? we are also transfering to the ak lodge mid way into this vacation.

    Hi Claire,

December weather at WDW can be a mixture of temperatures.  We've been there and enjoyed swimming during December, and we've been there the same time a year later and were bundled up in thick jackets, mittens, and hats.  I'd encourage you to begin following the weather forecast to see how the temperatures are looking (I like weather.com).  The pools are heated, so even if it is chilly, there are still guests who will swim year-round; it really ends up being a personal preference.  And if anything, there are wonderful jacuzzis at both the Contemporary and Animal Kingdom Lodge that can be enjoyed if it is colder.

As for the water parks, they will sometimes close if it is too cold.  During your stay, just Blizzard Beach will be open; Typhoon Lagoon will be closed for refurbishment.  So, it could be an option that your grandchildren may enjoy if it is warm. My children love both water parks, but I think we'd prefer it on a warm day.  It is one thing to walk from a pool deck to the resort room it is another to stay in a wet swimsuit all day if it is chilly (I'm pretty weather wimpy).

So should you pack the swimsuits? I say since they don't take up much room, I'd try to squeeze them into your suitcase. I'm hopeful your grandchildren will have an opportunity to take at least one dip in the pool or jacuzzi.
