Will be staying at the Contemporary and flying in the afternoon of May 31. What should we do for that 1/2 day so we can be back to the hotel and to bed early for a great early day on June 1? Thinking of Downtown Disney.

Hi Rosemary!  Wow I am so impressed to see that you are one who knows the benefit of not trying to fit it all in on the first day!  Traveling is so exhausting and so many families plan such a busy day when they arrive and thus start their vacation off exhausted!

Downtown Disney is certainly an option for you.  You could make some great dining reservations at one of the many restaurants and just enjoy a leisurely stroll through some of the shops.  You can catch a bus directly from your resort and back making this an easy trip.

Another option is to take the time to visit some of the other resorts close to the Contemporary.  You can hop on the monorail and stop at the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian and dine at either of these locations for dinner.  They both have unique decor and themeing and it might be fun to see another resort for a possible visit in the future.

You can also take a short boat ride to Fort Wilderness and enjoy dinner at Trails End or maybe try to get the early seating for the Hoop De Doo show that night.  While you are there you can visit the Disney stables where all the horses call home that work in the Magic Kingdom as well as Cinderella's white ponies that pull her carriage.

There is quite a bit to do right at the Contemporary resort too.  You can enjoy their pools, rent a water sprite boat and tour the waters in Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake or simply relax and enjoy the view from your room.  You are staying at a wonderful resort and will have many great options for that first night!
