We will be staying at the carribean resort and was wondering if anything, epcot, ,dining downtown etc are within walking distance? Also, we have a 3 and 5 year old and think it would be easier without dinner reservations, can we just go to a restaur

Hi Ashley!  Although looking at the maps of Walt Disney World it will appear that the Caribbean Beach Resort is close to many parks and areas it is actually a huge place and you will not be able to walk to these locations.  The resort itself is large and has an internal bus system so you can use that to get form one spot to another although you can easily walk to food courts and the main pool area from any building.  Besides the distance to Epcot and Downtown Disney there are no sidewalks that would make it a safe destination even for those families who like a lot of exercise. The traffic is very heavy on the roads and it would not be a safe adventure for anyone!

During most of the months at Disney you truly need to back up your plans for each day with dining reservations.  If you choose to do a table service meal then I suggest you get those reservations as soon as possible. If something comes up and you need to cancel then most will allow that on the same day. Be aware of the cancellation policies for restaurants you choose .  If you wish to make a character dining reservation then absolutely you will need an advanced booking. Those fill up very quickly and same day walk up opportunities are slim.

Many families find that their children have no interest in staying quiet for a dinner after a long day in the park and they simply cancel. It is better to go with some advanced preparations then be disappointed if you can not get into any table service location during your stay.  Please also remember that you are traveling to Walt Disney World and all of these restaurants cater to children and will make your family as comfortable as possible during the meal. You can make dining reservations on line at www.disneyworld.com or call directly at 407-939-3463.
