Staying at cabins Fort Wilderness. How easy is it to get to each park & when should we leave to get to each, ex: 1 hr early? The chimpmunk marshmallow roast, do you have to bring your own marshmallows? If check in is at 3:00 pm,can we arrive early?

    Jerry:

I'm a big fan of the fort. Let's tackle these questions one at a time.

Fort Transportation: You'll use the boat launch to get from the fort to Magic Kingdom. You'll take an internal bus from your cabin loop (the purple bus line) to Pioneer Hall and from there, walk to the pier.  The boat ride is about 18 minutes, but the wait sometimes can be equal to that along with about an 8-minute transfer on the internal bus.  So yes, giving yourself an hour is best although 45 minutes usually does it. For all other parks, you'll take the internal fort bus to the Outpost where you'll catch another bus to your destination.  Epcot's closest, but I always budget a good 30 minutes for the bus ride and waits for the bus can be as long as 20 minutes. If you have your own car, I suggest driving to all parks from Fort Wilderness except for Magic Kingdom.

Marshmallows: Essential question. If you want marshmallows, you'll have to bring your own or you can simply purchase them at the canteen behind the bleachers at the sing-a-long. If memory serves me correctly you can get a s'mores pack with sticks, marshmallows and all the fixin's for about $10.

Check-in:  You can certainly check in whenever you want. However, if your cabin isn't ready, you will be given a card with a phone number to call after 3 p.m. that will tell you your cabin number. This allows you to check-in, receive your park tickets, check your luggage, if needed, and head straight to the parks without having to wait on actually getting into your room.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
