Hi! We are staying at the boardwalk over spring break in March. My son will be 18 months old and eats all the food we do. Can we purchase a dining plan for him? Thank you in advance!

    Hi Hillary,

Congratulations on your upcoming spring break vacation!  I hope you will be able to experience some of the festivities at the 22nd Epcot Flower & Garden Festival while you are there.  Disney's Boardwalk Inn Resort hotel is in a prime location to stroll over to Epcot and experience the spring blooms, whimsical topiaries, and my favorite - the butterfly house.

Unfortunately you can only add the Disney Dining Plan as a part of a vacation package that includes Disney Resort hotel accommodations and theme park tickets.  Since your son doesn't need theme park tickets, you cannot add the Disney Dining Plan for him.  However this is good news for you!  Your son is free to enter the theme parks!  He also can eat from your plate at Counter-Service restaurants or Table-Service restaurants in which you order from a menu.  At Table-Service restaurants that feature a buffet, your child will have his own plate and even be served his own drink at no charge to you!  Since many character meals have buffets, a great strategy for vacationing with children under 3 is to make Advanced Dining Reservations at several of the character buffets.  It's a win-win!  Fun for your son and free for you!

In my experience I have found that the meal portions at the Walt Disney World restaurants are quite generous and most of the time I didn't need to order anything extra for my young children.  However, if you would like to order something for your child at a restaurant you can simply pay separately for it and use your Disney Dining Plan meal credits for your meal.

Thank you for your question Hillary.  Please let us know if you have any further Disney vacation planning questions.  We are always hEAR to help!

    Blessings,
