We will be staying at the Beach Club Villa Resort in April 2010 with 2 kids (3 & 8). Would you recommend taking the WDW busses to MK & AK, or renting our own car (since the kids are so little)? Are there long wait times for the busses? Thanks!!

Great question Cindy!  We often stay at the Yacht or Beach Club resorts so we have had much practice on the transportation to those two parks.

You definitely DON'T want to drive to the Magic Kingdom park on your own.  The Disney bus transportation will take you from your resort right to the entrance of the Magic Kingdom.  If you drive you will have to park in the parking lot then head to the ferry or the monorail line and then get to the park via one of those two ways.  It is so much easier just getting on the bus and within a few minutes arriving at the park to begin your magical day!

For the Animal Kingdom park we have used both ways.  The bus is easy but we do find the bus depot is a bit of a walk from the entrance.  If you arrive early enough to get a close parking spot this can sometimes be easier.  We have actually opted to just get a cab and use that to get us directly to the front entrance and we have never had difficulty finding one when we leave to return to the resort.  We call it our splurge day for transportation!
