We are staying at Art of Animation. Can we spend the day at AKL/Kidani with my 90 yr old dad? We have reservations at Boma/Sanaa/Jiko. Dad wants to watch the animals from an indoor observation area. Is this possible? What else can we do there?

    Hello, Linda,

Disney's Animal Lodge Resort is one of the resorts that I frequently say I could stay at and never visit any of the theme parks.  It is so richly themed and decorated with so many areas to explore and enjoy. Many of the cast members have such incredible stories and experiences to share that I think of them as one of hidden treasures at Walt Disney World.

The majority of observation areas are outdoors, but Sunset Overlook (located next to the Front Desk of Jambo House) has a savanna overlook while still being indoors. There is another viewing area just as you begin going down toward the Zebra Trail guest rooms that my family has always enjoyed, but it is outdoors. We also like the rocking chairs on the lower level that look out toward the savanna and the Arusha Rock Fire Pit, but the views aren't as a direct.

While they do vary, there are many activities throughout the day such as arts and crafts, African folktales, animal studies, and even a cultural safari and culinary tour.  When you arrive at the resort, I would stop by the Lobby Concierge to share with them your plans to spend the day at the resort with your father and if you could see an activity schedule and a Wildlife Field Guide to identify animals. You could also ask for a copy of their Hidden Mickey Scavenger Hunt if you'd like to really explore the resort!

I'd also encourage you to visit the independent website aklresort.com so that you can read more about the resort and see a sampling of the activity schedules from the past few years to see how the activities have varied.  If you have any further questions, please let us know.  Wishing you a magical trip!
