We are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge prior to our cruise. What time should we expect the bus to leave to take us to Port Canaveral? Is Disney transportation better than a private charter? We would like to get there around 11:30 to get on board early.

    Ahoy Denise -

How exciting that you'll be sailing with Captain Mickey once again. You've got a great combination vacation planned and I'm sure you and your family will have a blast. My family loves staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.  We enjoy hanging out at either lobby of Kidani Village or Jambo House - this resort is very unique!

The Disney Cruise Line ground transportation schedules are not pre-set at this time. Since you will be at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for your pre-cruise night, you can expect a ground transfer reminder letter on the evening before you set sail. The letter will remind you that check-in luggage will be picked up by bell services the following morning (ours was picked up at 8am). Make sure you attach the DCL tags. Don't forget your day bag which you'll take with you on the motor coach and carry with you onboard - you'll want to pack a change of clothes, sunscreen, camera, etc and any medications that you think you'll need for the rest of the day. Your check-in luggage will show up right at your stateroom door later that afternoon.

The letter will also include the meeting time and venue to board your motor coach that will take you from Animal Kingdom Lodge to Port Canaveral. Pick up times vary and can be anytime between 10:30 to 12 noon usually. The drive from the Disney resorts to the Port will take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. So, you'll likely arrive just in time to enjoy a bountiful lunch at the buffet onboard.

The cost for Disney Cruise Ground Transportation is $35 per person each way (or $70 round trip). I think it's the most convenient way of getting to and from the Port, but I know that it may not get you there as early as you want. There are a few other choices to check out -- private shuttle, limo service/charter, taxi. You'll have more control over pickup time for a private charter of course.

I hope this helps, Denise. Have a grand time!
