Staying at AKL/Arusha in December. Should I request a certain floor for the best view of animals? Which one? Have read elsewhere about floors 1 & 2 being too low and 5 and up being too high. What would you recommend? Thanks so much :)

    Hi Rebecca,

Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my favorite resorts! Staying there is such an exotic escape. Cross off floors 5 and 6 as these have deluxe rooms. In fact, floor 6 is entirely concierge accommodations.

Personally, I find the most convenient floor to be level 3. It's right off the main lobby so there's no  need to wait for an elevator. On our last visit, we were on level 4 which was nice as we could just take the stairs, however this wouldn't be an option for guests pushing strollers or those with mobility concerns.

The Arusha Savanna is premium priced because it has both giraffes and zebras, plus some other wonderful animals too. Both Zebra Trail and Zudu Trail look out onto this savanna. I prefer Zebra due to the proximity to the pool and The Mara food court. This was especially helpful when our son was very young.

You've probably read elsewhere that the hallways at the Animal Kingdom Lodge are extremely long. I can't stress enough exactly how long they really are. We were at the far end on our last visit and it was a haul to get to our room. However, the further out from the lobby, the better the views of wildlife seem to be.

If possible, I would request being half-way down the hallway. Now, here's where it gets tricky. Requests are not guaranteed. You'll want to note your requests in order of preference. For example, is the third floor more important than avoiding a room at the end of the hallway?

Personally, I've never placed a request on our reservation at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and I was only disappointed with the view once. On that trip, we had a room near the lobby looking out on to sunset savanna. I think if our room had been farther down the hallway, then the views would have been nicer.

Enjoy! The lodge is extra magical during the holidays with the added decor!
