Staying at AKL w/ 3 yr old and 2 adults. Will be spending most time at MK. Should I change to a resort closer to MK? How long is the bus ride from AKL to MK? Any suggestions, husband really want to stay at AKL. Will bus ride be too much for 3 yr old?

    Hi Jennifer!

You're in luck...I've stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) as well as all the monorail resorts, so I think I can help.  However, I do have mixed feelings about the answer I'm about to give.

Being the planner of our vacations, I like to take everyone's wishes into consideration when planning.  If your husband has his heart set on staying at the AKL, that would certainly weigh heavily in the decision.  AKL is an awesome resort and I think everyone should take the opportunity to stay there if they can.  The bus ride to the Magic Kingdom (MK) is approximately 20-25 minutes.

However, you did mention you will be spending the bulk of your time at MK.  For this reason, and the fact that you have a 3 year old, I would lean towards choosing a resort on the monorail if your budget allows.  Your choices are the Contemporary, the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian.  It will be very convenient for you to leave MK and return to your resort for a mid-afternoon break.

Another resort close by is the Wilderness Lodge.  Although I haven't stayed there personally (I have dined there often), I've heard wonderful reviews on this resort as well.

You didn't mention how many nights you plan on staying, but something I've done in the past when in this situation, is to split my stay between two resorts.

I hope this helps...if you have further questions, please send them in!  Diane
