We will be staying at the AKL in May. I was thinking of surprising my wife and daughter with the Starlight Safari, but I was wondering if it was worth the extra cost if you already have a savanna view room? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Jambo! Michael

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my favorite Walt Disney World Resorts. I had the opportunity to stay there for an extended 10-day vacation a few years ago and it was such a memorable vacation.

On a more recent trip to Walt Disney World, I had the opportunity to explore Kilimanjaro Safaris for an after-sundown offering of the attraction, and I can tell you it was an amazing experience. Disney’s African savannas took on a whole different feel and we saw wildlife that we never saw on our many previous ventures or from our resort views.

I can only imagine that Starlight Safari at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, with the added feature of viewing wildlife through night vision goggles, would offer an even more amazing experience. I think the Animal Kingdom Lodge Savanna View can be captivating, but I think the animal encounters on the special adventures like Starlight Safari would be exciting to experience.

With the breathtaking luminescence of Pandora – The World of Avatar, and the illuminated majesty of  the Rivers of Light nighttime show, Disney's Animal Kingdom now offers so much to enjoy when the stars come out.

    Enjoy your Disney!

The playful and creative optimism of all things Disney has enthralled me since I was a kid. I loved watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday nights, seeing all the live-action and animated classics in theaters, and — of course — visiting "The Most Magical Place on Earth" for the first time 45 years ago. These days, the big kid in me still loves to play Disney. As a long-time Disney destinations vacationer, I'm looking forward to helping you play Disney starting here at planDisney!
