staying at AKL jan 3rd - 10th can anyone tell me what are some of the highlights here , how close the parks are , transportation available , ansd a good plan for only a weeks stay to see everything this is our first trip have 12 yr old and 7 month old .

Hi Angela - I love the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and I think your family will love it also!

For transportation, you'll have to take the bus to each of the parks.  Travel time isn't too long - obviously Animal Kingdom is the closest - and in my experience, waiting for the bus is what usually takes the longest.  Depending on the bus, it will make either one or two stops at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

It's nearly impossible to see everything at Walt Disney World in one trip (or even 20+ trips!), so I recommend that you get a guidebook (the Passporter, the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, and the Complete Idiot's Guide to Walt Disney World are my favorites) and pick the "must-sees" for your family.  Then, make sure you hit those first each day.  To maximize your time, I'd suggest that you add the park hopper option to your park tickets.  That's a great way to see as much as possible in each day.

    Have a great vacation!
