Staying at AKL, going to Boardwalk for dinner and watch IllumiNations from there. It best to get bus to DHS then boat across to Boardwalk? DHS closes at 9.30 that day, will we have enough time after fireworks to get back to DHS on boat to catch bus back?

    Hi Diane,

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. You are correct that the easiest way to get from Animal Kingdom Lodge to the Boardwalk using the free Disney transportation is to take the bus from your resort to Hollywood Studios. From there, you can either take the boat to Boardwalk or you can walk.

My family usually chooses to walk because it is faster. There's a wide, nicely lit sidewalk along the waterway, and the stroll to Boardwalk shouldn't take more than 15 minutes or so. The boat is slower. It first will stop at the Swan/Dolphin dock, then at the Beach Club/Yacht Club dock before arriving at Boardwalk.

The buses will continue to run from Hollywood Studios to the resorts for at least an hour after the park closes, so you should have no problems getting back to Animal Kingdom Lodge after your dinner and IllumiNations. The fireworks begin at 9 and last 12 minutes.

Again, I would probably walk back to Hollywood Studios rather than wait for the boat, which will make those two stops again along the way. But even with the boat, you should have plenty of time.

I hope that helps. Please let us know if we can answer any other questions for you as you plan your visit. Enjoy!
