Hi, Dawn! My family loves Pop Century! It is a "totally groovy" place to stay!
Preferred room locations can be tricky. Most of the 1960's section, including buildings 4 and 5 are considered preferred rooms. However, you can get a room in the 1960's section that faces the water that is considered a standard room.
So here is my pitch on why I like standard rooms, especially at Pop Century. Some of the standard rooms at this fun resort have a lovely view of the water. Now, at other resorts, you pay a premium for a water view, here it is actually cheaper, go figure! Yes, you might have a bit longer of a walk to your room, but after all the walking you are going to be used to from being at the parks, the few extra steps to your room will be a piece of cake. (And speaking of cake, make sure you try the tye-dye cheesecake in Pop's food court!) Besides location and price, preferred and standard rooms are exactly alike. These rooms also tend to be a bit quieter due to location which I appreciate when it's time to turn in for the night.
Regardless of the room type you booked, you are welcome to request your room of choice, though it will NOT be guaranteed, and upgrades are not super common. However, fax your request (407-938-4040) to the resort about a week ahead of time and sprinkle the note with some pixie dust for luck!
I hope you get a wonderful room! If you have any other WDW planning questions, drop a note! Just click
