Where to stay for 2011 half marathon 18 yr daughter runner 25 yr son mom dad in tow.Availability very limited. want to do park also 1/5-1/10. Monorails rental car/taxi. Polynesian/Wilderness Lodge/Contemp Recommendations? CL worth $? Thanks in Time Crunch

    Jean:

The good news about the Disney Marathon weekend is that, unlike other race weekends, every resort will have transportation for the runners to the start line.  You can take the monorail from the Polynesian and  Contemporary. A bus will be your transportation from Wilderness Lodge. Each of these resorts on race weekend has its own advantages:
    • Wilderness Lodge. First of all, price. As a semi-deluxe, you get all of the great theming you'd expect from a Disney property at a cost less than the deluxes.  Although the rooms are smaller than what you'll find at the Poly and Contemporary, they have a double sink vanity that is separate from the bathroom and shower, a must, in my opinion, when you have four adults in a room. Don't worry about the bus to the race for your daughter. I took the bus for last year's Princess Half-Marathon and had no problems. Additionally, you can take the ferry over to the Magic Kingdom area and use the monorail for you and your husband to get to the finish line.
    • Contemporary. I would opt for a water view, and if price is a concern, a room in the garden wing. The rooms are some of the largest on property and the garden wing more quiet for rest the night before the race for your daughter in comparison to the rooms in the tower. The monorail will definitely be packed with race-goers, but they will keep it running even well-after 4 a.m. to ensure all runners get to the start-line.
    • Polynesian. Probably the last pick for me for a room, as they are dark and pricier than other resorts. However, you will have the option of being near the Ticket & Transportation Center for the monorail (which is where you'll end up transferring at if you stay at the Contemporary). This is its leg up as the line for the monorail can take as long as Space Mountain once spectators begin boarding...
Wishing y'all a magical vacation and a personal best on the race!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
