Well hey there Elizabeth, and welcome to planDisney!
Mother Gothel may have gone to great lengths to look younger, but when it comes to looking as youthful as ever, it does come with its own consequences - especially when it comes to being requested to show identification while you're on vacation. I took the opportunity to chat with a friendly
Cast Member from the Walt Disney World Resort Guest Relations team about whether a digital driver's license would suffice and here's what they shared with me:
- Whether you're arriving to Check-in for your Disney Resort hotel stay or purchasing an alcoholic beverage during your visit, Cast Members may not always accept an electronic or digital form of identification on their own and are trained to request an additional form of government-issued photo ID. (I personally discovered this the hard way on a celebratory excursion off-planet to Oga's Cantina during my wedding week, when some of our out-of-state friends and family could not be served unless they were able to provide a supplementary form of physical identification.)
- With the adoption of more kinds of digital identification like Smart IDs across the United States, Walt Disney World Resort policies may always be subject to change without prior notice and they currently advise the following: "For all questions concerning our identification requirements, please call (407) 939-5277."
As a seasoned traveller myself, I think it's always a good idea whenever you venture to any destinations (Disney or otherwise) away from home to bring back-up forms of identification as you'll never know what kind of Cast Member or server you'll encounter, who may or may not be familiar with digital identification nor even accept it at the instruction of their management. This may come in handy, especially if you're looking forward to some of the things to sip and savor at the
EPCOT International Festival of the Arts commencing around the time of your upcoming visit!
Here's hoping your experience won't be hard, when asked to show your card!
