I am just starting training for my first race, which I would like to be the Princess 1/2 marathon. I am looking at Feb 2015. Do you know any dates? Anything I need to know as a first time runner? Thanks

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Stacie!

I am very excited to see a question from a fellow South Carolinian. I am also very excited to hear you are training for your first race with hopes of it being the Disney Princess Half Marathon.

February 19-22 are the current dates for the 2015 event- of course race dates are always subject to change. Registration will open in early July and fill-up quickly. As a result of runDisney events selling out in record time, I recommend signing up for runDisney Email Notifications so you don't miss out on your opportunity to register.

My best tip for first time runners is to utilize the run/walk method created by the official runDisney training consultant, Jeff Galloway. This method has revolutionized running for those that would have otherwise thought it impossible to complete a long distance event. Additionally, this method will keep you injury free, allow for faster post-run recovery and give you confidence as you grow as a runner. I use this method myself and give it full credit for helping me successfully complete the inaugural Dopey Challenge. The best part is Jeff's run/walk training programs are available for free on the runDisney website. You even have the option of picking a training program specific to the runDisney event you are most interested in training for. runDisney really does a great job in providing its race participants with as many resources as possible to help ensure success. You'll even find nutritional tips on the website.

I hope this information has been helpful, Stacie. These are just a few tips to get you started as you begin to write your running fairytale! Please do not hesitate to ask any additional questions you may have. I am here to help make your race experience magical.

    Happy Training!
