Starting to plan a 2014 trip and was looking at the last week of Aug to avoid taking the kids out of school. Read that the crowds are low but hearing stories about the weather. Is it truly that bad, and is there a better time w/o missing school? Thx

    Hi, Candice!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thanks for your question. I’m glad to hear you’re in the early planning stages of your next Walt Disney World Resort adventure!

Yes, crowds are typically light the last week of August since many schools are back in session by that time and fewer families are traveling. The summer months in Central Florida, particularly July and August, are quite warm and prone to showers, but storms often pass quickly. My family visited Walt Disney World in July a few years ago, and aside from a handful of brief downpours, the weather wasn’t much of a problem for us (especially since we are from California and used to warmer weather). We packed inexpensive plastic ponchos (these are also available for purchase in the parks if you forget) and carried them with us to the theme parks. There is so much to do at the resort that the rain showers never spoiled our fun, and there was plenty of sun for enjoying the water parks and resort hotel pools!

I hope this helps, Candice. Please feel free to ask me any other questions you may have as you continue to plan!

    Wishing you magic,
    Courtney
