We are starting to plan our second trip( for 6)to Disney World the1st or 2nd week of Dec.and are trying to decide whether to stay on property or off. Our first trip we stayed at a cabin at Fort Wilderness. What are the pros and cons of staying on property?

Hi, Philip! Thanks for coming to see us with your questions.

We used to only stay off property.  You will definitely find cheaper options off property.  However, you will have to consider things like renting a car or paying for a shuttle to get you back and forth to the theme parks, paying for parking at the parks, and missing out on the extra magic hours reserved only for Walt Disney World resort guests.

You won't find amenities like continental breakfast at any of the Walt Disney World resorts, but there are off property hotels in the area that do have that option. Residence Inn by Marriott also offers an evening meal option some nights during the week, and that can help you save on your food budget.

If you are flying and staying on property, you can book Disney's Magical Express, and they will get you to your resort and even claim your luggage if you arrive during the day.  Some airlines also let you use the resort check-in service, so the day you are departing, you go to the check-in desk at your resort, check your bags, get your boarding passes, and head off to enjoy the last hours of magic without any worries.  You just come back when your Magical Express boarding time comes.

Other pros of on property - Magic Bands, FastPass+ booking options at 60 days in advance, and the +10 advance dining reservation bonus - where you can book dining reservations 180 days in advance for up to 10 days of your vacation as a resort guest.  That can really help snag those hard to get reservations.

I hope this helps when you have to make your choice!
