I am starting to plan a multi-generation trip for Jan 2019. None of us have seen Disney with Holiday lights so I want to make sure we do, when will the lights come down next year? Is there a way to get park information like ride closures that far ahead?

Greetings Kristen and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I have nothing but wonderful memories of multigenerational travel with my family. I do believe that the Walt Disney World Resort is one of the best destinations for families with Guests of all ages. It is my personal experience that you can make everyone in your party feel happy and included, regardless of age.

The Christmas decorations at Disney at truly beautiful, especially the stunning Cinderella Castle dream lights. No holiday visit is complete without taking pictures in front of the iconic castle with its beautiful season lights on, and I really wish they would stay there all year long. Unfortunately that is not the case, and there is no official date for when the Christmas decorations will be taken down. My experience is that decorations and lights start coming down right after the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. The last event this year, the marathon, took place on January 7, but next year the all races will take place from January 9 to January 13, so there is no way to guarantee whether or not the decorations will be up during your visit.

Rides may be closed for refurbishment, but at this time there is no official information on which ones and if any are going to be down next January. Closings due to refurbishment for each theme park are listed on the online calendar. I recommend checking back to see if attractions are added for the dates of your visit. It is especially important to check for closures as you get closer to your travel dates and start planning FastPass+ selections.

Thank you for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Kristen! I hope this helps and that you continue to send your questions our way.

    Best magical wishes,
