I am starting to plan our first trip to WDW. We have a family of 5 (1, 4, & 6 year old boys) and would like to know which resort would be best. We would like to spend time at the different parks, but also some time enjoying the pools & activities

There are a few nice options for a family of 5. Since most WDW hotel rooms allow for 4 people plus one infant under age 3 in a crib, all of the resorts are accessible for your family. Let me help you determine which resort would be fun for your boys.

Value resort: All Star Sports. These hotel rooms are small. Pools do not have slides but offer fun themes for young kids.

Moderate: Port Orleans Riverside offers a nice pool with slide, fishing, marina, complimentary boat ride to Downtown Disney, a large food court, and some rooms with trundle beds in the Alligator Bayou section of the resort. The Caribbean Beach Resort also offers nice amenities although no trundle beds. As of this Fall, it'll be unveiling a new pirate themed pool. The sandy beaches with playgrounds are also a nice way for your boys to burn off energy. The Fort Wilderness Cabins offer a bedroom with a double bed, bunk bed and a murphy bed in the living room. The bed folds down to the same level as the couch which offers more sleeping room. The pool here is not as nice but the campground offers fun activities such as movie nights under the stars with Chip 'n' Dale!

The Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are delightful for kids. Both lodges offer nice pools, small food courts and fun diversions such as a campfire at Animal Kingdom Lodge and bike riding at Wilderness Lodge.

The best pool on property is shared by the Yacht and Beach Club. Stormalong Bay is a kid's dream come true.

So ultimately it'll depend on which resort fits best in your budget. Then determine how important room size, pool slide, and other amenities are to your family. You might want to note that some hotes offer other transportation options besides the WDW bus. Wilderness Lodge would allow the family to ride a boat to the Magic Kingdom. From the Yacht and Beach Club you could walk or boat to Epcot and Hollywood Studios!
