Just starting to plan our family Disneyworld vacation (not until May 9-17, 2014). Have not been to the area as a family since 2010 and that trip was not really pre-planned. Can anyone give me some general pointers on how to get started in our planning.

Hello Frank, welcome to the Disney Parks Mom´s Panel!

Having chosen a great time to visit you can know decide where to stay during your Walt Disney World vacation.

All Disney resorts feature comforts and amenities for a great vacation.  Still, each category will offer more comforts and amenities than the one before.
If budget allows, a Deluxe Resort and Villas can feature character restaurants and signature restaurants and are conveniently located close to 1 or 2 theme parks.  A few resorts are within walking distance of 1 or 2 theme parks.  Four resorts have awesome views of the Magic Kingdom.
Moderate resorts like Port Orleans-Riverside offer great value for great rooms and beautiful landscape.

Disney theme parks offer a full day experience for most guests and Magic Kingdom can be visited 2 or 3 times on the same visit and you will still be entertained for the whole day/night.
I always try visiting parks with the longest park hours and making the most of early and late park hours - when crowd levels are usually the lowest of the day/night.

Try getting familiar with attractions and restaurants before your vacation, so that you can navigate with ease through the parks.
Try making most of your table service reservations as soon as possible, since you already are in the 180 days window.

Thank you for visiting and letting us help you plan a magical Disney vacation.
