I will be spending the 4th of July in MK. I am an Annual Passholder with a park reservation and I am staying at the Contemporary. Will I be allowed in if the Magic Kingdom reaches capacity? Or will I have to spend all day in the park to see the fireworks?

    Hiya Onnie,

Welcome to planDisney! As a former Ohio State grad, it always makes my heart smile to see someone from the Buckeye State here! Can you believe that this year is America’s Semiquincentennial Anniversary?! Like you, I knew that I just had to commemorate this occasion at the Most Magical Place on Earth! I cannot wait to see what they have planned.

Great question about park capacity, Onnie. With this being the 4th of July and the 250th anniversary, I’m sure Magic Kingdom is going to be very popular. I spoke to a Cast Member, and if the park hasn’t reached capacity, then you will have no problem gaining re-entry into Magic Kingdom on the 4th. But if the park is at capacity, you may be denied re-entry despite having a park reservation for Magic Kingdom. If seeing the fireworks is your main goal, then you should plan to either re-enter Magic Kingdom earlier in the afternoon or stay all day. Personally, Onnie, I’m going with the latter option because I really don’t want to miss the fireworks and plan to stay in the parks all day. I have even made dining reservations at one of the yummy places in Magic Kingdom and am planning my itinerary to include as many indoor breaks as possible for my little Mouseketeers.

I wish I had better news, Onnie, but I hope this was still helpful! If you do decide to leave the parks to take a midday break, be sure to call 407-560-5000 to check in and see if Magic Kingdom is not at capacity. The recorded message is updated regularly and will save you the walk from the Contemporary Resort. If you need anything else, please come back and see us.

    Happy Planning,
