How do you spend your Disney Rewards points? In the past used them towards tips, special things like the Halloween night, Hoop de do review etc. Just wondering how others use them and what works best. Have 2 kids ages 5 and 1 by next trip.

    Helllo, Carrie!

    What a great question!

I must admit, I have been hooked on the Disney Rewards Program (Charter Member!) because it is so flexible!  How we use our Reward Points changes as our children grow and as our needs have changed.

Just as you mentioned, we've used Rewards Points for big-ticket items, such as tickets for a surprise visit to a water park or allowing the kids to splurge on a really special souvenir such as Cinderella Castle Play Set. As the children grew a bit older, we allowed each one to take a portion of the Rewards Points and spend them on their own souvenirs...this has been a really great way to not only teach them how to budget money, but also to make them think twice before asking to purchase something. ("That will only leave you with $10 to spend, are you sure you want this toy?")

We're taking my in-laws to Walt Disney World this summer for my father-in-laws 70th birthday, so we upgraded to Disney's Premier Visa Credit Card specifically so that we could earn more Reward Points to help cover the cost of their Dining Plan. It's a great gift for them, and it puts less of a squeeze on our own budget, since our balance will be reduced significantly.

Finally, when we were not staying with a Dining Plan, we used our Rewards Points to say "yes" when somebody wanted that turkey leg or to refill the souvenir popcorn bucket or another Mickey Bar, literally allowing ourselves to eat away at the credit we'd built up through Rewards Points.

I hope that gives you an idea of some ways to utilize those Reward Points! Have fun spending them! And be sure to send more questions to the Panel as you think of them; we love to help!
