What is so special about the food and wine festival? We are going to WDW mid october with 3 kids ages 11, 9, and 7. Does it cost extra? Can you tell me more about this?

The EPCOT Food and Wine Festival is a wonderful event for those adults looking for learning opportunities about the wines of the world.  Each of the World Showcase countries has special wines from their area as well as food delicacies available from food kiosks.  It is a great way to walk around the world and taste a bit of their local flavor.  This event does not add any extra cost to your park ticket but the wine and food samples available will be at a charge.  There are also some special smaller wine and food events that take place during this 6 week period that require advance reservation and extra cost but these would not impact the regular park guest.

Your children might enjoy tasting new things from different countries but my guess is that they would rather stick to Future World and its attractions.  EPCOT can be a bit more crowded during the Food and Wine but much of that crowd is over in the World Showcase.
