Hi Kaleigh and welcome to planDisney!
July 4th is such a fun time to visit Walt Disney World! It's our annual tradition to spend a couple nights over the holiday, so we look forward to it every year. Event details haven't been shared for this year yet, but I can give you an idea of what you might expect next month.
If you are interested in spending the 4th of July in a theme park, let me tell you up front that it will be very busy and very hot, but very exciting.
Magic Kingdom Park and
EPCOT are usually the two theme parks that have a special nighttime spectacular show. On July 3rd and July 4th at Magic Kingdom in the past, “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky" has been the showstopper fireworks celebration. It's truly an amazing experience with 360 degrees of sparkling skies. It's best viewed from Main Street U.S.A., but we have stopped going to the parks the night of July 4th and now watch the show from our Magic Kingdom area
Disney Resort hotel. EPCOT typically has a special extension for July 4th as well, so a great plan is to see the show at Magic Kingdom on July 3rd and then head to EPCOT on July 4th to see both shows. You can also find Disney PhotoPass photographers with special Independence Day props to hold and maybe even some characters dressed in special outfits for the holiday. Last year, we took a photo in the American Pavilion at EPCOT with Goofy, Mickey and Pluto dressed in their patriotic threads. They were so cute! You can also find stars and stripes bunting decorations at Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT.
Not interested in spending your day at a theme park? Check the activities guide at your Disney Resort hotel to see if any July 4th activities will be going on during your stay. We have participated in carnival type games at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort in the past. Sometimes the pool games are patriotic themed and give out prizes like Uncle Sam themed rubber ducks. You can also check out the
Electrical Water Pageant that sets sail all around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. The end of the show features a little patriotic pride with a closing number of "You're a Grand Old Flag", "Yankee Doodle" and "America the Beautiful". It's a lovely way to end your evening.
Be sure to keep an eye on the
Disney Parks Blog for any upcoming announcements of July 4th activities for this year.
Please
stop back by and visit if you have any additional vacation planning questions.
Have a magical day!
